Four Seasons Farm has changed hands as of January 2025. Owen and Sina are handing off the farm to Kevin Hamilton and his partner Sandra Claudi and three children. Kevin and Sandra have a combined 40 years of organic vegetable production. Sandra went to the University of Halle in Germany for Agriculture and learned hands on in Canada. Kevin has ridden his bicycle over 40,000kms across Canada, Australia and from Portugal to Vietnam studying agricultural best practices without the aid of petrochemical products.
Four Seasons Farm began in 1992. One of the first organic vegetable farms in the region. Kevin and family live on the farm with Mittens the cat/pest control extraordinaire and a few chickens, are also part of the farm family. Owen, Sina and Moira are working on the farm until the end of June to knowledge transfer to Kevin and Sandra so they can continue growing exceptional fresh minerally dense organic produce.
Up to eight people work during the main season on the farm. The crew contains of local people who are looking for regional employment. Education is a big part of the work experience, making lots of compost teas and botanical amendments to help fertilize and keep pests under control.
Currently we produce on about 6 acres of land and also have 9 greenhouses to extend our season in the spring and fall/winter. Our main focus is on a washed salad mix with over 50 different varieties of lettuce and greens. Besides that we produce culinary herbs and vegetables like garlic, onions, shallots, beets, cherry and heirloom tomatoes.
In 2020 a weekly veggie box CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) was started. If you are interested please check out our CSA page.
The farm is located in Selma, close to Maitland at the Bay of Fundy. Just about one hour from Halifax and thirty minutes from Truro. Tourists enjoy the area for adventurous tidal bore rafting and scenic drives and views. In 2023 we started to offer part of our beautiful farm house and a cabin in the backfield as an Air BnB rental.
